Special Presentation at Keefe Tech on October 24, 2024.  The Commonwealth Corporation's First Grant recipient is the state of MA to expand access to workforce development

On 10/24/25, Secretary of Education, Patrick Tutwiler, Secretary of Labor, Lauren Jones, and Lt. Governor, Kim Driscoll, celebrated STEM Week at Keefe Tech and highlighted the amazing work happening between our government and private industry partners to enhance career and tech training opportunities in the commonwealth.

Keefe Tech Electrical and HVAC/R students highlighted the projects they are working on in their programs, with a focus on green energy and did an amazing job sharing why they chose their programs and what they want to do in the future. Keefe Tech is proud to offer 3 Career and Technical Initiative (CTI) Programs for adults in HVAC, plumbing and electrical.

Keefe Tech receives a 1.2 million dollar grant thanks to Mr. Flynn's hard work!

The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced in October 2024 at Upper Cape Cod Tech that it has awarded more than $17 million in Skills Capital Lab Modernization Grants to 18 schools across Massachusetts. Career technical education and training programs can use this funding to purchase and install equipment related to high demand industries and occupations, such as advanced manufacturing, health care, information technology, construction/skilled trades, and life sciences. Announced during STEM Week, these grants modernize and upgrade equipment, ensuring that students and workers are prepared for the rapidly evolving demands of today’s job market through expanded career programs for young people and adults and increased capacity in workforce training programs.

The grant at Keefe Tech will be used to upgrade equipment in our Metal Fabrication Program and create a maker space in our current shed next to Cushing Park that will allow students from the construction trades to work on a variety of projects together. Our students will also be working on that renovation together to make that happen. Way to go Mr. Flynn on his hard work applying for this opportunity!

After school got out last year, 7 students and 3 teachers (Mrs.Graham, Mrs. Roy and Mr. Hamilton) attended the SkillsUSA National Conference in Atlanta, GA. 4 students (Victoria Graumann, Kayla McLean, Matthew Kelly and Felix Marshall), attended as National Voting delegates and 3 Students (Grace Arena -First Aid/CPR, Kai-Philip Gray-Information Technology Services and TJ Nickerson- Internetworking) competed during the conference.

TJ earned 12th place in the Nation, Kai-Philip earned 13th place in the Nation, and Grace Arena won a National Silver Medal in First Aid/CPR. Also during the summer, Victoria Graumann, a Junior in Health Careers, was inducted as the SkillsUSA Massachusetts State Treasurer. Congratulations to all!

From the carpenters that build our infrastructure, to the electricians that keep us powered up- tradesmen and women's hard work is vital to our society. Like many fields, the trades are experiencing a shortage of workers, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t lots of tradesmen and women aspiring to join the workforce.

For this story, we look to the next generation of those learning their tools of the trade, specifically right here in Framingham, at Keefe Regional Technical School. Keefe Tech is a vocational school that allows its students to pursue their chosen trade with hands-on learning. Across the board- from metal fabrication, to plumbing and HVAC- school officials, teachers, and students all stressed the value of learning with their hands. Something else though- repeated again and again- just how vital these trades jobs are to the world around us, and these students recognize that.

On January 11, 2024, grade 12 Health Careers students participated in their Pinning Ceremony.  Seniors celebrated their hard work in their program and their accomplishment of earning their credential as Certified Nursing Assistants.  We can't wait to see all of the continued amazing accomplishments these students will achieve in their futures!

Before winter break, students in the Class of 2027 selected their Career and Technical Programs.  Grade 9 students have the opportunity to explore 8 out of our 16 career areas before making their selections. Students started in their programs at the beginning of 2024.  Congratulations Class of 2027!

Keefe at Night Receives a Career Technical Initiative, CTI Grant for Expansion of Two Trade Programs at Zero Cost 

Keefe Regional Technical School's Continuing Education program, has received a grant in the amount of $520,000 for the enhancement of its existing Journeyman Plumbing Code and Theory Program, and the creation of an HVAC, Oil and Gas Burner Technology Certification Program for adults. 

The expansion of these two programs is made possible through funding by the Career Technical Initiative (CTI), which is funded through an appropriation in the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 State Budget and funds appropriated through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. The grant is administered by Commonwealth Corporation on behalf of the Workforce Skills Cabinet. In partnership with the MassHire Metro South/West Career Center, Keefe at Night will administer the programs from the admissions application process to apprenticeship placement, and employment. 

The primary objective of the CTI funding and the expansion of these two programs is to address the needs of both job seekers and employers by providing training opportunities for adults in high-demand and high-growth industries. This training will help individuals who are either unemployed or under-employed in establishing career pathways. 

The grant funds awarded to Keefe at Night will provide opportunities to 20 eligible adult learners to enroll in an enhanced 200-hour Massachusetts Journeyman Plumbing Tier 1 course, and 40 eligible learners to participate in a newly-created 200-hour HVAC, Oil and Gas Burner Technology Certification Program at no cost to participants. In addition to classroom lectures, these programs will include OSHA certification, hands-on practice, and essential career development and employability skills training.  

We are extremely grateful for the opportunity provided by the Career Technical Initiative Grant. We are thrilled to be able to expand the Keefe at Night program's commitment to workforce development for the community by providing a no-cost option for training for adults in these two thriving areas. 

At Keefe at Night, we continuously strive to introduce new programs, particularly those in the trades. The creation and expansion of these two programs aligns with our mission to be a leading workforce training and development resource in MetroWest and beyond.

We hosted a Welcome Orientation Dinner and Career Fair for accepted students and their families in May.  Incoming students had a chance to connect with their peers, eat dinner with students interested in similar programs and participate in a career fair before selecting their programs for career exploratory.  

During grade 9 students get to explore 8 out of our 16 Career and Technical areas before selecting their area of study.  This night presented students the opportunity to connect with current Keefe Tech Students Ambassadors and Career and Technical Instructors about the different opportunities in the career areas.

On March 30, 2023, Keefe Tech's NHS Chapter welcomed new members.  NHS President, Makenzie Stebbins, welcomed current members, new inductees and their families.  NHS Officers interpreted the four pillars of the National Honor Society, Tricia Richards, Secretary on Scholarship, Lara Paulino, Historian, on Service, Kayla McLean, Treasurer, on Character, and Isabella Vasquez, VP on Leadership.
